Lesson 4: Romans, I Corinthians, II Corinthians, and Galatians
Objective: to understand the essence of the gospel.
A. Romans
- What is the main theme of Romans? (1:1-3, 16-17)
- What is the gospel of Christ, and what does it reveal?
- List 5 characteristics of a sinful man in Romans 3:9-18.
- Who is included in this sinful condition? (2:11, 3:9-10, 3:23)
- What righteousness does a man have that he can offer God? (3:10)
- What has God declared to you, and why? (3:25-26)
- Based on this, how are you justified? (1:17, 3:28, 5:1)
- What are some results of justification? (5:12)
- Being justified by faith, what is your spiritual resource? (5:5)
- Being justified by faith, what is your reasonable service? (12:1)
- List 5 ways this service will affect your daily walk (12:9, 13:7).
B. I Corinthians
- How has God ordained that people should hear and believe? (1:17-29)
- Whom has He chosen for this task, and why?
- What aspects of Paul’s life proved that he had forsaken all to follow Christ? (9:22)
- What does he compare this task to, and why is this so appropriate? (9:22-24)
- In 1 Cor. 13:4-8, insert your own name in the place of “love.” Does this paint a true picture of your life?
- Which verse does not fit you, and what do you think God would have you do about it?
C. II Corinthians
- What is the tragic result of handling the Word of God deceitfully? (4:3)
- Why did God shine into our hearts? (4:6)
- What is it that Paul fears and of which we all must be well aware? (11:3)
- Paul prayed to be relieved of his “thorn in the flesh.” What was the Lord’s answer to his prayer? (12:9)
- What was Paul’s attitude toward the final outcome?
- What lesson can you learn from his experience? (12:10)
D. Galatians
- What is the true origin of the gospel? (1:12)
- According to Gal. 2:20, who indwells Paul (and us)?
- What effect does this have on daily life?
- What are the works of the flesh, and how can Christians avoid doing them? (5:16-21)

- List the definite characteristics of a life of walking with Christ (Gal. 5:22-23)
- Which work of your flesh do you most need to surrender to the Holy Spirit’s control today? Take time right now to do that.
