Lesson 5: Deliverance & Forgiveness
Objective: to maintain fellowship with God, unhindered by sin.
A. Joshua and Deliverance - Read Josh. 1:1-9 and list God’s promises to Joshua. - What was the condition on which these promises would be fulfilled? - Can you apply any of these promises to your life? How? - In Josh. 7, why did God tell Joshua to stop praying? (also Psa. 66:18, Num. 32:23) - What happened after the sin was taken away? (Josh. 8:1) - What did Joshua command the people before he died? (Josh. 23:6)
B. David and Forgiveness - Read 1 Sam. 24, 2 Sam. 5, & 2 Sam. 12—find an example of David showing each of the following: - submissiveness - sincerity - boldness - trust in God - sinful passions - sorrow over sin - How can a person of terrible sins be seen as “a man after God’s own heart”? (Psa. 51)
Life Application - What sin or problem do you need deliverance from today? (Prov. 28;13) - Notice all the things God accomplished for Israel in Josh. 24:3-13. What do you need Him to accomplish for you? - In what ways do you see yourself in Joshua & David?
