Lesson 3: Moses, the Passover, & the Exodus
Objective: to learn to walk by faith, resting in the Lord
A. Moses, the leader (Ex. 3-4) - Why do you think God chose Moses to lead his people? (Heb. 11:23-29) - When God told Moses what He wanted him to do, how did He say the people would react? (Ex. 3:18) - Whose work was the Exodus going to be? (3:17, 20, 21; 4:12) - How did Moses respond, & how did God handle those responses? (Ex. 4:1-9, 10-12, 13-17) - How did the reception Moses expected differ from what happened when he was obedient? (4:1, 31)
B. The Passover (Ex. 12) - Why did God send the plagues? - What was the most vital instruction given to the Israelites? - How does Christ’s death correlate with the Passover in these Scriptures?—Ex. 12:3/Jn. 1:29; Ex. 12:5-6/1 Pet. 2:22; Ex. 12:6/1 Cor. 5:7 - What does the blood applied to the doorposts & lintel picture? - What happened to those who disobeyed the instructions given through Moses? What spiritual truth does this illustrate? - What does Ex. 12:29 teach about God showing favorites? How does this apply to any person who has not received Christ?
C. The Exodus - Compare Ex. 3:7-8 with Jn. 3:16—how do they relate to each other? - Summarize the miracle recorded in Ex. 14—what spiritual truths does it suggest? - What can we today learn from the Israelites’ 40 years of wandering in the wilderness? (1 Cor. 10:1-15) What does God promise you in this passage?
Life Application - What has God put in your hands that could be used for His glory? (Ex. 4:2) - How do you think God wants you to use it?
