Lesson 1: in the beginning, GOD… Gen. 1-3
Objective: to recognize how the book of Genesis relates to us today
A. Origin of Man - How did the world come into existence? - What was the original condition of the world & everything in it? (1:10, 12, 18, 21, 25) - How did man come into existence? (1:27) - Was man an intelligent being at this time? (2:20) How do you know? - How was woman brought into existence? (2:21-22)
B. Origin of Sin - What was man’s commission from God? (1:28-30) - What was man’s relationship with God at this time? (1:28) - How would you describe satan when he appeared to and confronted Eve? - Has he used this same approach in confronting you? - Whose word did satan question? (3:1) - Did Eve answer truthfully? (3:2-3, 2:17) - To what did satan appeal in speaking to Eve? (3:5) - In light of 1 Jn. 2:16, analyze the temptation & give the 3 parts of it (3:6) - Why was it wrong for them to eat from this tree? (2:17)
C. Sin’s Result - What was the result of Adam & Eve’s sin? (3:7-8) - What was the penalty for the serpent? For woman? For man? (3:14-19) - How was the relationship between man & God changed? (3:8-10) - What did God promise regarding satan’s destiny? Explain. (3:15)
Life Application - How does Adam & Eve’s sin affect you today? (Rom. 5:12) - How does Gen. 3:15 point to God’s plan in Jesus Christ?
